Overlooking Matsushima Bay,
A bath that touches the heart of tranquility

From the bathtub, which extends outwards to blend seamlessly with nature, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots.
In the morning, the baths are enveloped in soft light, and depending on the season, you can even watch the sunrise from the open-air bath.
Enjoy a luxurious bath that soothes your mind and body while gazing at Matsushima Bay, whose scenery changes moment by moment.

Beyond the rising steam, the sea of Matsushima stretches out serenely. As the colors of the sky change, the bay's appearance also slowly transforms. Forget time and enjoy a peaceful bath, becoming one with nature. Indulge in a quiet luxury that can only be experienced here.

Mount Hangan, where Yoshitsune stopped in Matsushima on his way to flee to Fujiwara no Hidehira of Oshu, is the mountain where the hero passed away. In mourning the hero's misfortune, the men's bath was named "Hangan no Yu" (Hangan's Bath). This bath, named after Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the "Kuro Hangan," is, in a sense, a bath for heroes. Enjoy the scenery of Matsushima while remembering Yoshitsune's spirit.

    Men's public bath

It is said that Shizuka Gozen, who adored Minamoto no Yoshitsune, followed him as he fled to Oshu and took refuge in Matsushima for a time. This hot spring was named "Shizuka no Yu" (Shizuka's Hot Spring) in honor of Shizuka Gozen, who is believed to have stood on Hanganyama Hill and thought of her beloved. As you gaze out at the sea of Matsushima from the open-air bath, you can almost feel the emotions of Shizuka Gozen in those days.

    Women's public bath

At Taikanso, the large public bath faces the Pacific Ocean. To allow you to enjoy the early morning view of Matsushima Bay, we adjust our opening hours according to the season. Please see the table for opening hours.
